03/03/2008
Around 50 students attended the MAD Camp in Reading on Friday 29th February. This was the next stage of the MAD (Make A Difference) Ideas student competition. Finalists spent the day refining their MAD Ideas with a mentor who will then work with them over the next 2 months before the MAD final in April.

MAD (Make A Difference) Ideas is a student Competition that focuses on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. It brings together University students and staff to generate innovative thinking and original project ideas. MAD Ideas offers students in the South East an opportunity to develop their creativity and discover how to put ideas into action. Winners will share a £10,000 prize fund, and will be on their way to seeing their ideas turned into innovations.

MAD Ideas is also about helping both students and staff in Universities to realize that being enterprising - whether in a personal, social or economic context - is vital for our future. It\'s about embracing the spirit of enterprise and championing a vibrant culture of entrepreneurship. The Competition focuses on both the generation and validation of ideas, with the quality of the idea and its ability to progress being paramount.

The Make a Difference Competition is sponsored by SEEDA, the South East England Development Agency, and facilitated by the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE). SEEDA is the lead region for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise in the UK and talks to Government on behalf of all the other regions when policy is made - particularly with respect to universities and student entrepreneurship. The NCGE runs Flying Start, the programme (which helps students get business ideas off the ground.
