| Business Plan Competitions: purpose and practice is a one-day best practice event hosted by the University of Durham in association with Enterprise Educators UK. It will take place on 8th April in Durham. Since 2000 there has been a substantial growth in the number of UK Universities running what are loosely termed business plan or business idea competitions. Some regions, notably the North East, now have well-established regional contests and Enterprise Educators UK has run a UK-wide competition since 2005. The growth of such contests has largely been in line with the growth of enterprise education but what is the purpose of such competitions, which models contribute best to the development of enterprise skills, do regional economies benefit and what do our students gain from the experience? This event will explore these questions of purpose and will also look at the practical issues surrounding raising sponsorship and running competitions.
