From student to CIO: BCS website offers invaluable careers advice to IT professionals

10/05/2006
The most comprehensive careers advice available is being offered to IT students and professionals as a part of the new BCS website; www.bcs.org. Supported by personalized accounts from people working in a wide range of IT roles, the careers section offers guidance on securing the elusive 'first job' and switching to a career in IT as well as identifying the roles available and how to access them.

By utilizing the SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) framework, IT job profiles have been spilt into four catergories: Development and Implementation, Service Delivery, Strategy and Planning, and Management and Administration providing a clear, user-friendly pathway supported by an extensive range of tools such as successful CV and covering letter writing through to interview and body language techniques enabling professionals to further develop their careers.

"The BCS's strong commitment to promoting professionalism in IT has provided the drive to develop such a comprehensive careers section for our website" said BCS chief executive David Clarke. "IT professionals will now find that they are being offered a clear evaluation of their industry roles and their future prospects with invaluable advice from those within the industry through the extensive career profiles available" he added.

The website as a whole benefits from 600 additional pages providing all-embracing information on all aspects of the IT profession. A new students section, much of it written by students for students, also provides young aspiring professionals with advice, career profiles, new IT developments and reviews, project news from other colleges and universities and networking opportunities.
