| Sally Kellet's work on developing Creative Warriors created a lot of interest at the conference as it was based on the provision of case studies on entrepreneurs and a method of visual business planning to develop ideas into business developmental storyboards. Her paper, A Picture of Entrepreneurship: Visual Narrative in Creative Enterprise Education introduced a process of 'visioning' and the use of narrative helps explore the tension between their creativity and business planning. Creative Warriors case studies encourage a way for learners to visually explore future pathways of developing commercial ideas through the exchange of creative stories from elder Creative Warriors who tell their stories to help transfer their experiences to new and budding entrepreneurs. "To win an award for my research is indeed an honour and the interest in Creative Warriors was phenomenal as a tool for enterprise education for creative discipline students and entrepreneurship within the Creative Industries" said Sally. The Creative Warriors developmental work follows 2 years of research into the current paradigm shift in entrepreneurial education within Higher Education set in context against the need to service the skill shortages of creative graduates and in relation to the demands of the current Government agenda for the future growth of the Creative Industries, which are seen as key drivers in the economic development of the UK. Her research on emerging practices in enterprise education looked at over 15 new courses within Higher Education and supporting agencies. Findings indicated new style of creative entrepreneurial culture being embedded into design education by the introduction of creative enterprise education programmes that are tailor made to serve the newly termed creative entrepreneur. These case studies will be part of the work published by the Higher Education Academy later in the year. The Subject Centre for Art and Design Media (AHM-HEA) at the University of Brighton is currently undertaking a research project Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries Research Report (ECI) in association with professional organisations and subject associations in the Creative Industries with the aim of supporting and enhancing the development of entrepreneurial skills in the Art, Design and Media Sectors. Its aim is to establish verifiable evidence about the entrepreneurialism of art design and media graduates and the role of Higher Education in this field. The project is led and funded by the AHM-HEA and NESTA. Partners include The Council for Higher Education in Art and Design (CHEAD), the Design Council, the National Council for Graduate and Entrepreneurship (NCGE), the Standing Conference of Principals (SCOP) and the Universities UK (UUK). |
