28/09/2007
Fifty of the best lecturers and learning support staff in higher education in England and Northern Ireland were recognised for their excellence at an awards ceremony at Middle Temple Hall, London on 19 September 2007.

The 2007 National Teaching Fellowships, awarded by the Higher Education Academy, were presented by Bill Rammell MP, the Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, and Professor Rick Trainor, Principal of King's College London, who chaired the awarding panel.

The 50 award winners for 2007 will each receive awards of £10,000 to support learning and teaching activities. The new Fellows come from universities, HE colleges and conservatoires throughout England and Northern Ireland.

The Award Winners include David Gibson, Senior Teaching Fellow in Entrepreneurship at Queen’s University, Belfast. Since joining Queen’s in 2002, he has made a significant contribution to enterprise education locally, regionally and nationally. He has embedded enterprise skills within 24 disciplines across the University, developing an ‘Enterprise for Life’ model which builds students’ confidence in their employability skills. His research revealed eight competencies that every successful entrepreneur has, which are also vital to anyone in a corporate or public sector career.
