| Content: | NICENT has recently worked with both the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the British Council to spear head entrepreneurship education development within the vocational education section in Sudan and Higher Education in Sri Lanka. Entrepreneurship is increasing seen as a driver for change in post-conflict societies and transitional economies. Entrepreneurs are not only required for economic but also for social change. The development of an entrepreneurial culture is recognised as a catalyst for rebuilding economies and renewing societies by inspiring and empowering communities. NICENT has been involved in pioneering a broader understanding of entrepreneurship, known as Enterprise for Life, within the University and its partnership institution, Queen’s University Belfast. NICENT is increasingly recognised as a leader in the development and integration of innovation and entrepreneurship education in diverse subject areas. This, and supporting activities, has contributed to the creation of a more entrepreneurial culture within Higher Education and the wider society, in Northern Ireland. NICENT’s work with UNIDO resulted from a request from the Sudanese Government to work with representatives from their vocational education sector to assist in the development of a strategy for integrating entrepreneurship education within training centres there. |
