EU asks entrepreneurs to help reduce "red tape"

21/09/2007
The European Commission has launched a new website to enable entrepreneurs to suggest ideas on how to reduce the administrative burdens they face. The new website will be available in all Member languages and follows the example of similar online questionnaires in some Member states. Reports on complaints and ideas received will be regularly published on the same site.

This Online Consultation is part of the Action Programme for reducing administrative burdens in the European Union launched in 2007 (-25% by 2012). This Programme is meant to identify and suppress unnecessary administrative burdens, while not undermining the underlying objectives of EU law.

This Online Consultation has been created for businesses. It targets their concerns and aims to collect contributions that will help the EU to design more efficient business legislation. This website does not aim at receiving complaints from private citizens and cannot cater for contributions concerning private administrative issues.

Together with the launch of the online consultation European Commission Vice-President Günter Verheugen also announced that a contractor has been entrusted with measuring the administrative costs arising from European legislation and their implementation at national level. As announced last week, a high level group of stakeholders will advise on the ongoing work under the Action Programme for reducing unnecessary burdens.
