| The NCGE has published the results of a survey of female students and graduates interested in starting their own business. The survey statistics reveal the motivations and backgrounds of would-be entrepreneurs The survey was designed in collaboration with officials from the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) and the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) and was completed by 700 of the 1,145 applicants who applied for the Flying Start (FS) Programme for Women Entrepreneurs, which commenced in January 2008. Flying Start Programmes normally receive around two to three applications for every place on a programme, and the large number of applications received for the Women’s Programme demonstrates both the huge interest and untapped demand amongst female graduate entrepreneurs. The 60 participants who attended the Programme represented 47 different universities. The feedback they provided on the Programme makes interesting reading and demonstrates that Flying Start is meeting the needs of those attending. In response to this huge demand the NCGE has already agreed with Yorkshire Forward to run another specialist programme for women, and is in discussion with two other RDAs about how the NCGE can assist women in these regions. |
